All-Purpose Devices
A few weeks ago I received a digital photo frame as a gift. I like the idea that I can display photos that are backlighted. This gives the photo a more vibrant touch than if it is printed on some material.
However, I wonder about the sense of the additional features it provides. Apart from showing photos in a slideshow, it can play videos, music and it has a calendar with an alarm.
Every phone nowadays has these features as well. Different MP3 players come with these features. DVD players have the same capabilities as do laptop and computers.
Basically, I can do everything with every device, yet I can not replace all devices with one.
Why would I want to watch a video on a digital photo frame when I have a DVD player and a laptop at home? Why would I use a calendar on my MP3 player if I use it on my phone?
I have certain devices for certain purposes and my habits just do not fit to one all-purpose device.
I would prefer to pay less for a device with only the essential features. Even if additional features come at no additional price increase, they still annoy me for some reason. That is one reason why the iPhone never appealed to me from Day 1 although I am a fan of Apple products.
